Dear Friends. The city of Helsinki has witnessed new kind of problems faced by those who are addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. Coronavirus has forced the social services to shut down the facilities that provide food and the possibility to wash oneself. The addicted and the homeless are hungry, which increases their substance abuse and overall poor health. Many of those living on the street need emergency aid which is harder and harder to find. Quakers will gather donations for these people during Christmas, New Year and the beginning of the year 2021. The donations will go to the Salvation army. We will add fifty cents to every euro donated through us, the maximum limit of overall donations treated this way being 2000 euros. At the darkest moment, Winter Solstice, of this year that has been strange and challenging to many of us, let’s celebrate the turn towards lighter times by gathering in silence and dance in a sacred virtual space that we create together ! The Religious Society of Friends in Finland organizes a Silent Meeting for Worship every month’s first Sunday at 1-2 pm (Finnish time) online via Zoom. It’s also possible to participate via telephone. In the attachment you’ll find the permanent link & Finnish phone numbers for the meetings (if you want to call by phone from another country,let us know so we’ll generate a phone number according to your needs). We open the line latest at 12.45 to give space for testing Zoom etc. Also after the silence there’s space for sharing and chatting. In Quaker’s silent Meeting for Worship we gather to just sit together in God’s presence and listen to the whispers of the Spirit in our hearts. Sometimes these whispers inspire us to minister to others, vocally or in some other form. God’s Spirit can speak to us in so many ways. It can be thoughts and words or it can be images, sensations, feelings, colours, sounds, movement… ❤ In Ecstatic Dance we surrender to our body and let it move us…The rational mind quiets down and gives way to the music and the dance that arises naturally.. so the Spirit can move us in this way, too! ❤ Let’s celebrate World Quaker Day the 4th of October at 6 pm EEST by this experiment to combine Silent Meeting for Worship with dance! We’ll meet at Zoom (the link to it you’ll find by opening the attached file) and gather for our Meeting for Worship in Silence for a short moment, then continue by dancing to a shared playlist for 1-1,5 h, then continue the Worship in the Silence again for a bit longer than in the beginning. You are welcome to share in any language, and anyone can help out by translating each other’s words into other languages, and when there’s no translation we can try to feel and listen to the Divine behind the message even if our brain doesn’t understand the words. Experiment with Light is a guided meditation process based on Quaker tradition. It helps to get in touch with some wisdom beyond the superficial concious mind and sometimes get guidance to different life situations (more info here: http://www.experiment-with-light.org.uk/ ). The process consists of about 40 min guided meditation and time for processing ”the findings” it alone and in group. For this part it’s useful to have paper, pen and possibly some colours at hand. I will guide EwL in Finnish online from every 3rd thursday of the month (until further notice) from 7 until about 8.30PM at Zoom (the link below). In English there’s a weekly EwL session online every Tuesday at 6-7.15 Finnish time, and every second thursday of the month at 9-11 pm Finnish time.
